A celebratory dinner was held tonight for ACA members and officers who had offered substantial time and help towards this fund-raising effort. Officials from the San Francisco Office of the Consulate General of China were present for the occasion.

A ceremonial check for $30,500 was presented to Consul General Gao at the conclusion of the dinner. From there, the money will be given to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation.

Here are some images from the event:

To date, we have received over $25,000 in donations from generous individuals and businesses. The final amount will be presented in the form of a check to the China Red Cross Foundation.

We have also received belated confirmation that our tent shipment has, indeed, arrived. There had been some confusion over the intended destination of the tents when they arrived in Hong Kong, resulting in a two-week delay.

Again, a sincere thank-you to DHL and Polar Air Cargo for making this shipment possible. Also, we would like to thank all the individuals who have helped us by manning the fund-raising booths during the Saturday Market. Finally, we would like to extend a warm thank-you to those who have donated to the fund.

We have uploaded some images of the Saturday Market fundraising events.

To date, the ACA CERF has received over $15,000 in donations from individuals like yourself. We will continue our efforts in raising funds for disaster relief in China. Please come visit our booth Saturday or Sunday in downtown Anchorage at the Saturday Market.

Using a portion of donated funds, we have purchased 40 four-person tents and 13 steel-framed canopies. DHL, in partnership with Polar Air Cargo, has offered to ship our aid supplies to China free of charge. The shipping cost for the tents (the canopies weigh 160lbs each) could easily have exceeded the cost of the tents themselves.

The ACA would like to extend its sincere thanks to DHL and Polar Air Cargo for their invaluable support!

Our tents shipped this morning via DHL and Polar Air Cargo on a flight bound for Hong Kong. The tents will continue to Chengdu, and are estimated to arrive on Monday or Tuesday. Each tent box carried two stickers with a brief message of hope. The message reads, "To our friends in the Sichuan disaster area, keep your hopes up!"

We also have pictures taken yesterday during the loading of the tents onto a DHL air cargo container.

The ACA has received strong support from the Anchorage community for our China earthquake relief fund-raising effort. As of May 20, we collected almost $8,000 through various fund raising activities. We would like to thank the donors for their generosity and quick response.

We have great news from the local DHL office. DHL, in partnership with Polar Air Cargo, will support us by shipping relief items to China free of charge! According to the Chinese Red Cross, tents are currently the items in greatest demand in the disaster area. Therefore, with the approval of the Board of Directors at its special meeting, the ACA will use a potion of the donated funds for the tents and will ship them via DHL and PAC.

During this Memorial Day weekend, the ACA will continue to run a fund-raising booth with performances downtown at the Saturday Market. In addition, there will be fund raising activities at various shopping malls, Carrs and Fred Meyer stores. Please contact Samson Ning at (number removed) to volunteer for these activities.

We continue to welcome donations of any amount - no amount is too little to count. Thank your for your generosity and kindness.

The Alaska Chinese Association responded to the disastrous earthquake in Sichuan, China by launching a fund raising campaign on May 13th, one day after the earthquake. By Sunday May 18th, we received over $5,800 in donations. Many association members participated in this fund drive by volunteering their time collecting donations and tending our fund-raising booth at the Saturday market. Several high school students prepared baked goods for sale and performed music at the Saturday Market. With their help, we collected over $2,400 on Saturday and Sunday alone. On behalf of the 1.3 billion people in China, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all donors and volunteers. Thank you, Alaskans, for your thoughtfulness and generosity!

As we move forward with our fund raising campaign, we will need a lot more volunteers. The more people, the more power we have to help! In this time of crisis, we need every member to make his/her effort to help the millions of our people affected by this disaster. Please contact Samson Ning at (number removed) if you would like to donate or volunteer.
