The Yen Wulin Alaska Chinese School

The ACA has run the Yen Wulin Alaska Chinese School since 1984. Presently, it is held at Northwood Elementary School (map) every Friday evening 7-9 p.m. during the school year. Our Chinese school is open to the public, and provides a nurturing environment for those who want to learn the Chinese language and culture. Our principal and staff are all volunteers, and tuition fees go toward facility rental, teaching supplies, and transportation costs.
We currently have over 80 students enrolled in 8 classes from Kindergarten to 12th grade, plus an adult class. Each class covers speaking and comprehension, as well as reading and writing in both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. Class runs from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, and there is a one-hour recess afterwards, during which students can socialize with one another or receive additional help with classwork.

Spring semester begins January 6th, 2012. Please look below for our school calendar. We welcome all returning students!
We've gotten many emails recently from people interested in studying Chinese. Because Spring semester acts as a continuation from Fall, it is very difficult for the new students to join in and follow. We suggest you wait until next Fall to begin your studies.
Also, many people have been asking about tuition. As an ACA member, tuition is $120 per semester and book fees vary from class to class ($20 to $50).

Teaching Assistants Needed
Chinese School is looking for volunteer TAs to assist teachers in classrooms! The only requirement is that volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. Former Chinese School students have selection priority.
